The Winemakers

Margan Family Wines

Andrew had one of the best apprenticeships in the business with the late, great Murray Tyrrell, one of the best winegrowers of his time. He taught the importance of the relationship between the vineyard and the finished wine, which is exactly what Andrew has based his current winegrowing philosophy on.

Andrew also spent several years as a 'flying winemaker' traveling between European and Australian vintages several times per year. He was mainly based in the Bordeaux wine region of France but also made wine in other regions.

In 1997 after racking up twenty vintages at Tyrrell's, Andrew decided to fulfill a long held dream and launch his own wine brand named simply, Margan.

Margan wines have won critical acclaim as well being awarded 16 major trophies in National and International wine shows including the Leo Buring Trophy for Most Successful Exhibitor in Current Vintage in both 1999 and 2000.

"One of the most impressive of the new wave of Hunter producers, Andrew Margan has used his winemaking experience to transform the family's grape growing business into a flourishing winery where quality is paramount."
- AGT Wine Magazine.

"Andrew Margan is the leading light of the new wave of Hunter winemakers, making fresh and zippy whites and mellow reds which show respect to the great soft and supple Hunters of the past."
- Philip White, The Adelaide Advertiser.

"Margan is one of the Hunter's most exciting new brands."
- Jeff Collerson, The Daily Telegraph.
